SPECTRUM RESOURCES
If
you grew up in a family where neither your mother nor father
held a job, would you know how to get one yourself?
Unfortunately, this kind of cultural deprivation is commonplace
in Des Moines inner city community making it extremely difficult
for young people to enter mainstream society. Unfortunately,
most traditional programs focus on trying to fix negative
conduct without considering ways to increase positive behaviors.
One company,
however, has found a successful way of helping young ill served
and underserved people realize their fullest potential. Spectrum
Resources is non-profit organization dedicated to giving men and
women the tools they need to rebuild their lives and become
independent, productive members of society through basic job
training and trade skills. Spectrum realizes that the only way
to compete with gangs, guns, and drugs is to enhance youth
development intellectually, socially, physically and
economically. From youth and adults in the mainstream community
to at-risk youth and non-traditional adults, Spectrum provides a
seamless spectrum of services to meet all academic, social and
job skill needs with a heavy emphasis on soft skills. Spectrum
provides training in curriculum development, instruction, case
management, equal opportunity, diversity training, sexual
harassment prevention, problem solving, and personal counseling.
